
Beijing Sport University (BSU), founded in 1953, was originally named the Central Institute of Physical Education. It was renamed Beijing Institute of Physical Education in 1956 and adopted its current name in 1993. As a national key university, BSU is part of China’s "211 Project" for priority development and was among the first institutions included in the national "Double First-Class" initiative. With a distinguished history, profound cultural heritage, and a solid educational foundation, the university enjoys a prestigious reputation both domestically and internationally. It operates under the direct administration of the General Administration of Sport of China. Located on Xinxi Road, Haidian District, Beijing, the university spans 755,000 square meters, with a total floor area of approximately 460,000 square meters. It boasts nearly 100 indoor and outdoor training venues.
BSU is organized into four academic divisions: Division of Sport and Health Sciences – Comprising seven schools, including the School of Education and the School of Psychology; Division of Humanities and Social Sciences – Comprising seven schools, including the School of Marxism and the School of Management; Division of Olympic Sports – Comprising eight schools (or institutes), including the School of Competitive Sports and the China Football College; Division of Sports Engineering – Housing the School of Sports Engineering (China Sports Big Data Center). Additionally, the university hosts several national institutions: Party School of the General Administration of Sport of China, National Sports Administration Cadre Training Center, National Coaches College of the General Administration of Sport and China Olympic Academy.
I. Admission Program
1. Degree Program
(1) Undergraduate Program
Beijing Sport University currently offers 20 undergraduate majors for international students. The standard duration of the program is 4 years, with instruction conducted in Chinese. Upon completion of the prescribed curriculum, passing all examinations, and successfully defending their graduation thesis, students will be granted the graduation certificate. Those who meet the specified requirements for a bachelor's degree will be conferred the degree certificate.
(2) Master Program
Beijing Sport University currently offers 13 master's majors for international students. The duration of study for international students pursuing an academic master's degree is three years, while the duration for those pursuing a professional master's degree (in International Chinese Education) is two years. All courses are taught in Chinese. Upon completion of the training program, passing the thesis review and defense, students will be awarded a master's graduation certificate and a master's degree certificate.
(3) PhD Program
Beijing Sport University currently offers 7 doctoral majors for international students. The duration of study for doctoral programs is four years. All courses are conducted in Chinese. Upon fulfilling the program requirements, passing the dissertation review, and successfully completing the oral defense, students will be awarded both a doctoral diploma and a doctoral degree certificate.

l Application Requirements:
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations such as the Notice by the Ministry of Education of Regulating Admission of International Students to China’s Higher Education Institutions (Letter No. 12 [2020] of the Ministry of Education).
2. Applicants are expected to be in good physical and mental health and meet the physical examination requirements for a Chinese Visa or a Foreigner’s Residence Permit, as well as those for BSU programs, to ensure normal study and life in China. Physical examination standards refer to the “Guiding Opinions on Physical Examination for Admission to Ordinary Colleges and Universities”.
3. Applicants must have no record of disciplinary violation, public security punishment or criminal conduct; be friendly to China and equipped with moral integrity; comply with Chinese laws and university rules and regulations, and respect Chinese customs.
4. In principle, applicants for “Undergraduate Program” should be between the ages of 18 and 30 as of September 1 of the enrollment year and must have an educational background equivalent to or higher than a Chinese senior high school diploma.
5. Applicants for “Undergraduate Program” must have passed HSK Level 4 or above. In addition, applicants must take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) administered by the China Scholarship Council and obtain valid test scores. For specific test subjects, please refer to the Program Majors.
6. Bachelor’s degree is required for “Master Program”. Master’s degree is required for “PhD Program”.
7. Applicants for “Master Program” and “PhD Program” must have a Chinese proficiency level of HSK 5 or above according to the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK). Those who have obtained a degree from a Chinese university where Chinese was the language of instruction are exempt from providing an HSK certificate.
l Application Materials:
1. Nationality certificate:
1.1 Passport information page (valid after September 30, 2026).
1.2 Applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and have obtained foreign nationalities should provide the following materials:
(1) Certificate of Cancellation of Chinese Household Registration and Certificate of Renunciation of Chinese Nationality dated before April 30, 2022.
(2) Endorsement pages with entry and exit stamps of visits to China in the applicant’s passport from April 30, 2022 to the time of application.
(3) Proof of residence abroad for at least two years by April 30, 2022 (nine months of residence abroad per year may count as one year, subject to entry and exit stamps).
1.3 Applicants should provide the following if one or both of his or her parents are Chinese citizens:
(1) Certificate of the applicant obtaining foreign nationality at birth or afterward.
(2) The nationality or household registration certificates of both parents (passports or ID cards).
(3) For applicants who obtain foreign nationality at birth, if one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens with permanent residence abroad, a certificate of the corresponding permanent residence is needed. If one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens without permanent residence abroad, a certificate of the applicant’s renunciation of Chinese nationality is required.
1.4 Applicants with a Chinese visa must provide a copy of their recent Chinese visa page. Applicants currently in China must provide a copy of their valid Foreigner's Residence Permit.
2. Graduation and degree certificates:
2.1 “Undergraduate Program” applicants must submit a senior high school diploma or higher (students who are expected to graduate in 2025 may first provide a pre-graduation certificate issued by the senior high school they attend).
2.2 “Master Program” and “PhD Program” applicants must submit all degree certificates earned at the undergraduate level and above, and those who have not yet graduated must provide a pre-graduation certificate (Degree certificates must be obtained at the latest before enrollment).
Note: All incoming master's and doctoral students of the Class of 2026 must obtain a bachelor's or master's degree recognized by China (from domestic universities) or the "Foreign Academic Qualification Verification Report" issued by the Center for Student Services and Development (for overseas universities)( https://zwfw.cscse.edu.cn/ ) prior to the registration date. Failure to do so will result in the revocation of the admission offer.
3. Transcripts:
3.1 “Undergraduate Program” applicants must provide the following transcripts:
(1) Senior high school transcripts (including all courses taken) or test scores of the national high school graduation examination or college entrance examination in the country or region, such as SAT, ACT, IB, A-Level, and UEC.
(2) Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) Score Report. For specific test subjects, please refer to the Program Majors. Applicants can visit the official CSCA website (https://www.csca.cn ) to check specific test dates and content.
3.2 “Master Program” applicants must submit complete transcripts during their undergraduate studies.
3.3 “PhD Program” applicants are required to submit complete transcripts of their undergraduate and master's degrees.
4. Language proficiency certificates:
4.1 Chinese language proficiency certificate (This is a mandatory field):
(1) “Undergraduate Program” applicants must provide HSK (Level 4) Examination Score Report or other proof of equivalent Chinese proficiency.
(2) “Master Program” and “PhD Program” applicants must provide HSK (Level 5) Examination Score Report or other proof of equivalent Chinese proficiency.
4.2 English language proficiency certificate (for English as a Second Language students only):
(1) IELTS: an overall band score of 6 and above.
(2) TOEFL iBT: an overall score of 90 and above.
5. Research plan:
“Master Program” applicants are required to submit a research plan of not less than 800 words in Chinese. “PhD Program” applicants are required to submit a research experience and research plan of at least 1500 words in Chinese. For “Undergraduate Program” applicants, the research plan is optional.
6. Letters of Recommendation:
“Master Program” and “PhD Program” applicants must submit 2 original letters of recommendation from scholars with the title of Associate Professor or above, or senior professionals in the relevant industry. For “Undergraduate Program” applicants, this is optional.
7. Original certificate of no criminal record (within 6 months):
7.1 Applicants currently in China must provide a certificate of no criminal record in China issued by the local exit and entry administration department or public security organ.
7.2 Applicants currently not in China must provide a certificate of no criminal record issued by the public security administration of their home country.
8. Physical Examination Form for Foreigners (within 6 months):

2. Non-degree Program
(1) Program A: Chinese Language Program
The Chinese language training program of BSU offers Elementary Chinese Language Program, Intermediate Chinese Language Program and Advanced Chinese Language Program, with a complete range of levels and a complete curriculum. The main goal of Chinese language teaching is to cultivate students' communicative ability in Chinese, and the teaching is carried out at different levels for students with different basic levels of Chinese, with diversified and flexible teaching contents. The college organizes rich and colorful Chinese language practice activities to let students experience Chinese culture in the actual language environment.
The duration of the program is one semester or one year, and students who pass the program will be awarded a certificate of completion.
Main Courses: Speaking, Listening, Integrated Chinese, Extensive Reading, Newspaper Reading, Writing, Chinese Culture, Grammar, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, etc.
(2) Program B: Martial Arts and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Retraining Programs
BSU offers professional advanced courses such as Wushu training course, sports health maintenance advanced courses, sanda advanced courses, traditional Chinese medicine massage advanced courses, and sports rehabilitation advanced courses all year round. The duration of the program is one semester or one year, and those who pass the course will receive a certificate of completion.

1. High school graduates with ages ranging from 18 to 55.
2. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations such as the Notice by the Ministry of Education of Regulating Admission of International Students to China’s Higher Education Institutions (Letter No. 12 [2020] of the Ministry of Education).

II. How and When to Apply
BSU accepts online applications. Applicants should register on the online system (https://ims.bsu.edu.cn/EEdepot.aspx ) within the application period and upload application materials as required.
Spring Semester (enrollment in March): The application should be submitted between 2025.12.01 to 2026.1.27. (only for Non-degree Program applicants).
Fall Semester (enrollment in September): The application should be submitted between 2025.12.01 to 2025.06.01.
III. Scholarships
1. Chinese Government Scholarship
Applications will be accepted by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), embassies (consulates) abroad, or relevant organizations. These organizations will submit applicant information, negotiate admission to the university, and provide feedback on admission. 2. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (Confucius Institute Scholarship)
The Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) organizes the application and examination. For the applicants who have passed the CLEC’s review, the CLEC will request the university to review their application materials for admission. For details on the application process, please visit http://ccsp.chinese.cn/ . The final admission result will be subject to the CLEC’s announcement.
3. Beijing Government Scholarship
Applicants should apply to BSU for the scholarship after enrollment and will be evaluated according to BSU’s scholarship evaluation method after BSU receives the application materials.
4. BSU Belt and Road Scholarship
Applicants should apply to BSU for the scholarship along with their program application and will be evaluated according to BSU’s scholarship evaluation method after BSU receives the application materials.

V. Admissions Procedure
The School of International Education and Exchange of Beijing Sport University is fully responsible for the enrollment of international students. The admissions process is conducted through online application, online review, and online Q&A. Applications are evaluated based on document review and online video interviews. Depending on the program requirements, an Admission Committee will be formed, consisting of representatives from the School of International Education and Exchange, Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School, and other relevant departments.
Admissions Procedure:

VI. Admission and Registration
1. Admission
Applicants who pass the materials review and the interview will be informed via email/WeChat by early July. Applicants who fail to meet the requirements in document review or interview will not be admitted.
BSU will send out the Admission Notice, the Visa Application for Study in China (JW201/JW202/DQ Form) and other relevant admission documents to admitted applicants. Admitted students should apply for a study visa (X1 or X2 visa) at the Chinese embassy (consulate) in their home country using the BSU Admission Notice and the Visa Application for Study in China (JW201/JW202/DQ Form).
2. Registration
New students should register in person on time according to the time specified in the Admission Notice. Counselors in each school will contact these students by email before the start of the semester. Please keep an eye on the mailbox. When registering, students are required to present the Admission Notice, original JW201/JW202/DQ Form, passport, and original application materials. Those who have undergone a physical examination in their home country are required to provide the original physical examination record.
3. Review
The applicant’s materials will be reviewed by the relevant schools at the time of registration. BSU reserves the right to withdraw an offer of admission for the following reasons: (1) there are discrepancies between the applicant’s actual situation and their Admission Notice, candidate information and other supporting materials; (2) the applicant is found to engage in acts of falsification, commit illegalities for personal gains, or apply for double registration, among other violations.

l [About visa application]
Admitted students should apply for a Chinese study visa at a Chinese embassy using the Admission Notice and the Visa Application for Study in China (JW201/JW202/ DQ Form). Students who will study for more than 180 days should apply for an X1 visa, and change it to a residence permit for the purpose of study at BSU’s School of International Education and Exchange within 30 days upon arrival in China; students who will study for less than 180 days may apply for an X2 visa.
l [About medical insurance]
The Ministry of Education of China stipulates that international students must purchase medical insurance offered within Chinese territory during their stay in China. Students can purchase the medical insurance that meets requirements in their home country, or purchase it at the School of International Education and Exchange on the day of registration. Students who do not have the required medical insurance will not be able to register.
