Project of Serbian Student Studying at BSU 2024

I. Program Description

To actively promote the "Enhancement of China-Serbia Relations Positioning" in the fields of sports and education, and to strengthen the sports and cultural exchange between China and Serbia, Beijing Sport University has established a special scholarship since the autumn semester of 2024 to recruit Serbian youth students and sports enthusiasts to Beijing Sport University for academic degree or non-academic degree education.

Academic degree education includes three levels: undergraduate, master's and doctoral. Non-academic degree education includes general visiting student and visiting student for specific sport.

The project application deadline is June 25, 2024.

II. Scholarship Overview

1. Tuition and Accommodation Waiver

All admitted Serbian international students will be fully exempted from tuition fees, dormitory fees (double occupancy), comprehensive medical insurance premiums and physical examination fees. Additionally, a monthly living allowance will be provided to cover daily expenses. Students are responsible for covering their own visa (approximately 500 Yuan).

2. Academic Degree Program Applicants

Applicants who meet the Chinese language proficiency requirements for admission can directly enroll in the academic degree program. Those who do not meet the requirements will be provided with an additional one-year scholarship to study Chinese preparatory courses. After one year, if they meet the Chinese language proficiency requirements for admission, they can begin their academic studies. If not, they may choose to withdraw from the program or continue studying Chinese at their own expense. Once they meet the Chinese language proficiency requirements for admission, they can begin their academic studies and receive the same scholarship benefits.

3. Non-Academic Degree Program Applications

Non-academic degree program students can participate in Chinese language training courses free of charge during their studies.

4. Living Allowance Details

The specific living allowance standards are as follows:

l Undergraduate students: 2,500 Yuan per month

l Master's students: 3,000 Yuan per month

l Doctoral students: 3,500 Yuan per month

l Non-academic degree students: 2,500 Yuan per month

III. Application Requirements

1. Nationality

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid Serbian passport. If the applicant was previously a Chinese citizen and has since acquired Serbian citizenship, they must have held a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate before April 30, 2020, and have proof of cancellation of Chinese citizenship. Additionally, they must have a record of actual residence in Serbia for at least two years from April 30, 2020, to the time of application (nine months of actual residence abroad in a year can be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).

2. Age and Health

Applicants must generally be 18 years of age or olderare physically and mentally healthy and meet the physical examination requirements for obtaining a visa or residence permit to China.

3. Educational Qualifications

Academic Degree Programs:

l Applicants for undergraduate program must have a high school diploma or above.

l Applicants for master's program must have a bachelor's degree.

l Applicants for doctoral program must have a master's degree.

Non-Academic Degree Programs:

l General visiting students must have completed at least one year of study at a university.

l Visiting students for specific sport could have no prior education requirements.

4. Language Proficiency

Academic Degree Programs:

l Applicants for undergraduate program are suggested to shall a certificate of HSK4 or above.

l Master program are to shall a certificate of HSK5 or above.

l PhD program shall a certificate of HSK6.

Non-Academic Degree Programs:

l There is no Chinese language proficiency requirement. English requirement is IELTS 5.0 or TOEFL 35-45 or CEFR B2.

IV. Study Period and Academic Schedule

1. Study Period

Undergraduate Program: Duration: 4 years (maximum 6 years)

Master's Program: Duration: 3 years (maximum 6 years)

Doctoral Program: Duration: 4 years (maximum 6 years)

Non-Academic degree Program:

l Duration: Typically have a one-semester study period, which can be extended to one academic year if necessary.

l Minimum course load:160 credit hours per semester

l Minimum credit requirement: 10 credits

2. Academic Calendar:

BSU divides every academic year into spring and autumn semesters, each semester has 16-20 weeks, the autumn semester starts in September and ends in January of the following year while the spring semester begins in February and ends in July.  There will be a winter and summer vacation every year.

V. Program Majors

Undergraduate Program:

l Physical Education or Sports Training (shall have a specialized sport)

l Wushu and Traditional Chinese Sport

l Strength and Conditioning Training

l Sports Rehabilitation

l Kinesiology

l Management of Sport Economics

l Dance Performance. etc.

Master's & Doctoral Program:

Primarily open to majors in Physical Education and Sports Coaching (shall have a specialized sport)Traditional Chinese Sportroutinesanshouhealth qigong)Sport and Exercise Science Rehabilitation Medicine and Physical TherapySports MedicineSport Humanities and Sociology.

Non-Academic Degree Programs:

1. General visiting student

May choose to take any course offered in Chinese from the undergraduate major. BSU will offer English-taught course modules for some majors based on enrollment numbers.

2. Visiting student for specific sport

May choose to train in one or more sports, such as olympic sports, traditional Chinese martial arts, Sanda, fitness qigong, chinese ethnic folk dances, etc. They may also choose non-Olympic sports such as calisthenics.

VI. Application Procedure

1. Online Applications

Applicants should register at the online system ( https://ims.bsu.edu.cn/EEdepot.aspx  ) before the deadline fill in the registration information and submit the application materials as required.

2. Application Materials

(1) Academic Credentials

l For previous degrees, provide official transcripts. Recent graduates may submit a pre-graduation certificate issued by current institution.

l For citizenship verification, provide a copy of your passport information page (valid beyond September 30, 2024).

(2) Academic Achievement

Provide at least one of the following:

l Previous degree transcripts

l Serbian high school graduation exam or university entrance exam scores

(3) Language Proficiency

HSK Level Test certificate or English Proficiency Certificate.

(4)Research Plan (Both Chinese and English are acceptable)

l Master's degree applicants must submit a research plan with a minimum of 800 words.

l PhD applicants must submit a research experience and research plan with a minimum of 1500 words.

(5)Recommendation Letters

Master's and PhD applicants must submit two recommendation letters. The recommenders should be PhD or scholars with the title of Associate Professor or above, or experienced professionals in the relevant field.

(6)Criminal Record Clearance Certificate

Submit an original criminal record clearance certificate.

Notes:

All non-Chinese or English application materials must be accompanied by notarized translations into Chinese or English.

Paper application materials are not required during the application stage.

3. Entrance Interview

Applicants who have passed the materials review will participate in the expert interview (online) in July, 2024. Details about the interview will be sent by email.

VII. Accommodation

BSU provides free double occupancy accommodation in on-campus international student dormitory for Serbian students. The dormitory rooms are approximately 20 square meters in size and have private bathrooms. Each floor of the dormitory building is equipped with a kitchen and laundry room.

General Information of Beijing Sport University


BSU was founded in 1953 as the Central Institute of Physical Education, and was renamed the Beijing Institute of Physical Education in 1956 then Beijing Sport University (BSU) in 1993.
