2024 Beijing Sport University Master and PhD Programs in Chinese for International Students

I. Program Introduction

BSU will offer 13 graduate majors and 7 doctoral majors to international students in 2024. For more information about majors, main courses and tuition fees, etc., please refer to the List of 2024 BSU Master and PhD Program Majors for International Students. The study duration for master’s programs is 3 years (full-time), and 4 years (full-time) for doctoral programs. The degree and a graduation certificate will be conferred to those who have passed all required exams with satisfactory results and passed the thesis defense.

II. Eligibility

1. Non-Chinese citizens who hold a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations set by the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC ”.

2. Physically and mentally healthy. Outstanding academic performance and potential.

3. Bachelor’s degree is required for master programs. Master’s degree is required for doctoral programs.

4. Candidates for master programs should have passed HSK Level 5 or above; candidates for doctoral programs should have passed HSK Level 6.

5. Have no record of discipline violation, public security punishment or criminal conduct; show respect towards China and behave well; comply with Chinese laws and university regulations, and respect Chinese customs.

III. Application

1. Application Method

BSU offers online applications. Applicants should register at the online system (https://ims.bsu.edu.cn/EEdepot.aspx  ) within the given time to fill in the registration information and submit the application materials as required.

2. Application Period

February 1, 2024 ~ June 1, 2024(Beijing Time, GMT+8)

IV. Application Materials

1. Degree certificates(in scanned files):

1.1Master’s program applicants are required to submit undergraduate degree certificate.

1.2Doctoral program applicants are required to submit both undergraduate and graduate t degree certificates.

1.3 Applicants who have not graduated by the time of application are required to provide an official letter from their current university stating the expected graduation date.

    2. Nationality certificate

2.1 Passport information page (valid after September 30, 2024).

2.2 Applications who are originally Chinese citizens and obtained foreign nationalities afterward should provide the following materials:

(1) Valid passport and a certificate before April 30, 2020, for the cancellation of their original registered residence in China and the renunciation of the Chinese nationality should be provided.

(2) The entry and exit seal page of visiting China on the applicant's passport from April 30, 2020, to the time of application.

(3)  The proof of residence abroad of at least 2 years by April 30, 2020 (9 months of residence abroad per year may be considered as one year, subject to entry and exit signatures).

2.3 Applicants should provide the following materials if one of or both of the parents of the applicant are Chinese citizens:

(1)Certificate of the applicant obtaining foreign nationality at birth or afterward.

(2)The nationality or household registration certificate of both of the applicant's parents (passport or ID card).

(3) For applicants who obtained foreign nationality at birth, if one of or both of the parents are Chinese citizens and have the permanent residence abroad, a certificate of the corresponding permanent residence needs to be provided. If one of  or both of the parents are Chinese citizens but have not obtained the permanent residence abroad, certificate of the withdrawal from Chinese nationality of the applicant needs to be provided.

    3. Transcripts (in scanned files):

(1)Master’s program applicants are required to submit undergraduate transcripts.

(2)Doctoral program applicants are required to submit both undergraduate and graduate transcripts.

    4. Language proficiency certificate (provide at least one of the following materials)

4.1 Chinese language proficiency certificate:

(1) Applicants for master program shall a certificate of HSK5 or above.

(2) Applicants for PhD program shall a certificate of HSK6.

(3) Other equivalent Chinese proficiency certificates.

4.2 English language proficiency certificate (required for English as a Second Language students only):

(1) IELTS at or above 6 points.

(2) TOEFL at or above 90 points.

    5. Personal statement and study plan:

(1)Master applicants shall submit a research proposal of no less than 800 Chinese characters.

(2) Ph.D. applicants shall submit a research experience and research proposal of no less than 1,500 Chinese characters.

6. Two letters of academic recommendation from scholars who are associate professors or above, or senior professionals in a related academic field. Please follow the instructions on the online system for submission of online recommendation letters or upload the recommendation letters with original signatures.

7. Original certificate of no criminal record:

(1) Applicants currently in China must provide a certificate of no criminal record in China issued by the local exit and entry administration department or public security organ;

(2) Applicants who are not currently in China must provide a certificate of no criminal record issued by the local public security administration.

Note:

(1) If any of the above application materials are not in Chinese or English, notarized copies in Chinese or English must be provided.

(2) There is no need to mail paper materials during the application process.

V. Entrance Interview

BSU will review the application materials. Applicants who have passed the materials review will participate in the expert interview (online) organized by the application school from April to June, 2024. Details about the interview will be sent by email.

BSU may accept applications who apply for transfer from other schools. The transferred students shall participate in the examination according to the same standard of the enrollment rules and regulations. Applications will be selected based on the interview results, and those who fail the interview will not be admitted.  

VI. Admission and Registration

1. Admission

Applicants who pass the materials review and the interview will be informed via email by early July, and can also log in to the application system to check the results.

BSU shall issue the “Admission Notice” and the form forConfirmation for Study in China” (JW201/202 Form) and other relevant admission documents to admitted applicants. 

Please apply for an X1 or X2 Visa (study visa) at the Chinese Embassy (Consulate) with the BSU Admission Notice and the form for Confirmation for Study in China” (JW202/201 Form).

2. Registration

Term begins in early September, 2022 and the specific time will be informed on the admission Notice. New students should register in person at BSU within the time specified. The counselor of the school will get in touch with the students before registering. When registering, students are required to present the Admission Notice, JW201/202 Form , passport, application materials in original, and four 2-inch certificate photos on white background. Those who already did a physical examination in their home country are required to provide the original medical examination records.

3. Second Review

BSU will conduct a second review on the application materials after admission, and is entitled to withdraw its decision of admission and disqualify any applicant in case of any unconformity between the applicant and their Admission Notice, student information and other materials, or other violations such as fraud or committing irregularities.

VII. Scholarships

1. Chinese Government Scholarship

Students applying for “CSC Scholarship” should directly contact the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. For specific application times and requirements, please refer to the information published by the local Chinese embassy or consulate. When completing the scholarship application form, the applicant should select “Beijing Sport University” as the priority.  Please visit https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn for the detailed application process.

2. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (Confucius Institute Scholarship))

Please visit http://ccsp.chinese.cn/ for logging on to search for recommending institutions, upload application materials online and track the application progress, comments and results.

3. Beijing Government Scholarship

Applicants shall apply to BSU for the scholarship after enrollment and will be evaluated according to BSU’s scholarship evaluation method after BSU receives and reviews the application materials.

4. BSU Belt and Road Scholarship

Applicants shall apply at BSU for the scholarship along with their application for the program and will be evaluated according to BSU’s scholarship evaluation method after BSU receives the application materials.

[About Visa Application]

Admitted students shall apply for a Chinese study visa at the Chinese Embassy using the Admission Notice and the form for Confirmation for Study in China” (JW201/202 Form). Students who will study for more than 180 days shall apply for an X1 visa, and change it to a residence permit at BSU’s Office for International Exchange and Cooperation within 30 days upon arrival in China; students who will study for less than 180 days may apply for an X2 visa.

[About Medical Insurance]

Ministry of Education of China stipulates that international students in China must purchase medical insurance offered by Chinese company during their stay in the territory of China. Students can purchase the required medical insurance in their home country, or purchase it from the Student Affairs Department of Beijing Sport University during the registration process. Students are unable to register without purchasing medical insurance as required.
